The Toughest Festival You Will Ever Attend!

Over the years we have had the pleasure of meeting many directors and students from every part of Canada and the United States. Each time the same question arises as to why we do not offer a competitive music festival like the other companies. There are many competitive festival companies out there but most do not encourage music education. Rhythms International has made it it’s mission to assist the directors in motivating their students and supporting the teachings.

It was this year at one of our festivals that it dawned on us that we are a competitive festival company. Not only are we competitive but we are probably the MOST competitive company out there. Why? Because at our festivals, the groups must face the toughest competition; THEMSELVES! On stage the performers must look at themselves in the mirror and ask if they lived up to their own expectations and those of their director. Did they do themselves honor? Did they play as good as they could or should have? Did they get the rating they expected? These are all questions they can only ask themselves.

When you participate in a competitive festival, you are compared to other groups that you have no idea what level they are; Good or Bad. In a Rhythms International Festival you know who you are up against; YOURSELF! Once on stage you are left to face your toughest competitor and see if you can live up to your own expectations. It makes no difference how the group before or after you performed. Once on stage you are left to give the best you can at that given moment.

Your evaluation by our judges will be according a variety of different aspects. Age of the group, their history, selected materials, appearance, stage presence, responsiveness to comments and suggestions and overall general attitude are but a few of the criteria our adjudicators take into consideration when evaluating a group. These elements are personal to each group and cannot be compared the next one on stage.

As they say, "you have but one chance to make a first impression" and your allotted time is your time in the spot light. You are directly responsible for you rating you will receive. It will never be according to other groups present.
